Like everything credit-related, it depends if it’s reported to the credit agencies. Some credit counselling services, and some credit card companies, will note on your credit report that you are in credit counselling. That’s not necessarily all that bad. At least it shows you are trying to pay your debt. But definitely ask before signing up for a program. If it will be on your credit report, negotiate with them to have the notation removed once you’ve satisfied the payback to the counselling service.
